Chain Reaction and Its Steps

 Chain Reaction:

These are such type of reaction where more and more product molecules are produced chain wise after just initiating the reaction unless it is checked. 



Such type of reaction proceeds through four type following steps. All steps are discuss below:

1. Chain Initiating: Some active radicals or species are generated from reactant molecule.

2. Chain Propagation: Active radicals generated in the initiation step combined with other reactant molecule to produce product molecule and some other active radicals . Some other active radicals are also generated.

4.Chain Inhibition: Some active radicals produced in the first two steps may combine with product molecule to produce reactant molecule. This step generally slows the reaction.

5.Chain Termination: In this step those active molecules generated in the initiation step combine together to produce reactant molecule. 

SOME TIME FORIGN MATERIALS ARE USED TO TERMINATED THE CHAIN REACTION.

Chain Reaction: Divided into two parts........

                                 i) Stationary(non branched)

                                    Only one type of active radicals are produced in the propagation step.

                                 ii)Non stationary( branched)

                                    More than one type active radicals are produced in the propagation step.

Chain Length = (Rate of reaction) / (Rate of initiation)

It is not essential to have chain inhibition step for a reaction to be chain reaction.

Chain length is very large than inhibition step is absent .
